Stadler KISS

Stadler has received legal approval to go ahead with the SEK3.5bn ($424.4m) order to supply 33 four-carriage, double-decker trains to Swedish company Mälab.

Stadler received the order for KISS trains through a tendering process in June last year. During that time, a competitor raised an objection and launched a challenge in a competent court in Stockholm against the tendering process. The court has since dismissed the objection, meaning an agreement can be signed between Stadler and Swedish management company Transitio.

Stadler Rail Group’s owner and CEO Peter Spuhler said: "We are very pleased about the court’s decision and are proud we are able to continue supplying trains to Sweden."

The order comes with an option to supply an additional 110 vehicles, with the first to be delivered in 32 months.

Stadler KISS is an electric multiple unit, offering more legroom for passengers. Its low floor entry with sliding steps allows disabled people and children easy access.

The trains will run in the area around Lake Mälaren to the west of Stockholm at a maximum speed of 200kmph.

The order for Mälab is the first call-off from the framework agreement that Transitio concluded in 2014 with three suppliers for the procurement of regional railway vehicles. The framework agreements will run for a period of seven years.

Stadler said it is the only supplier permitted to sign the agreement to provide two different types of vehicles including single-decker FLIRT and the double-decker KISS trains.
