Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) has signed a €70m contract with Stadler Rail at the TransCaspian 2015 international transport and logistics exhibition in Baku, to deliver five 1,520mm-gauge Kiss double-deck electric multiple-units (EMUs).
The four-car train will each have passenger capacity of 919 people, seating for 396 passengers, 84 of them in business-class.
The first two trains will be delivered next month for use between Baku and Korogulu during the European Games, which will be hosted later this year in Baku.
The remaining trains will be delivered by January next year and all five sets will be used on the 43km Baku-Sumgayit line, which is currently being upgraded.
In addition, Stadler has also secured a €43m contract from the Valle d’Aosta region in north-west Italy for five three-car, bi-mode Flirt trains for the inter-regional passenger service between Aosta and Turin.
The company said that the bimodal trains, of the newest FLIRT3 generation, are scheduled to be delivered in 2018.
