European engineering company Sweco has been selected by the Swedish Transport Administration to modernise Stockholm Central Station.
The scope of the project includes planning and designing upgrades to the station environment and associated railway network, as well as infrastructure such as tracks and platforms.
It includes the modernisation of switchgears and the renovation of waiting bays and turntables with accessibility-adapted platforms.
Sweco Sweden president Åsa Bergman said: “We are pleased to be working closely with the Swedish Transport Administration to create the railway hub of the future for travellers and freight.
“With this project, we are providing our expertise, experience and commitment within a range of disciplines, from railways, environment and architecture to design, technical building services and project management.”
Stockholm Central Station spans the area from Tegelbacken to Karlberg and is one of the busiest railway stations in the country, with nearly 1,000 daily arrivals and departures.
