Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has submitted plans for the £200m extension of the Midland Metro from Wednesbury to the new DY5 Enterprise Zone at Brierley Hill.

The new formal seven-mile extension plan was presented by West Midlands Mayor Andy Street and TfWM managing director Laura Shoaf to the UK Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling.

TfWM is the executive body of West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), which manages transportation within the metropolitan county.

The new line represents the first of a series of proposed extensions to the route currently operating from Wolverhampton to Birmingham.

It includes extensions to Wolverhampton interchange and the HS2 terminal at Curzon Street, Birmingham.

WMCA transport lead member councillor Roger Lawrence said: “Once this link is open it will connect key locations such as Merry Hill and Dudley town centre to the wider transport network for accessing the national rail network and HS2 and, eventually, Birmingham Airport.”
