UK rail operator South West Trains is set to introduce a new technology on its trains to enhance reliability and punctuality across the network.
The new high-tech solution, GreenSpeed Driver Advisory System, will be able to collect real-time data from a range of sources to calculate the ideal speed of the train, helping to ensure service punctuality.
In addition, this system is capable of minimising the impact on the environment by reducing energy consumption, as well as allowing running more frequent trains on the network.
South West Trains engineering director Christian Roth said: "We are investing millions of pounds right across the network to provide extra space, refurbish and improve our trains, as well as upgrading our infrastructure to ensure more of our trains run on time.
"The introduction of this groundbreaking technology is part of that ongoing commitment and is a major step forward towards improving one of Europe’s busiest networks."
The new development is part of a wider plan, which is aimed to transform services for passengers.
