Wabtec has signed a $40m contract to design, install, test and commission Positive Train Control (PTC) for the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA).
SFRTA operates the Tri-Rail commuter rail service that links Florida's Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach regions.
The contract will see Wabtec provide its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS) equipment for use on 42 locomotives and cab cars.
The company will also provide a back-office server, wayside communications and signals, and a dispatch system, as well as various training and system integration services.
Wabtec expects to complete the installation process by the end of 2018.
Wabtec president and CEO Raymond Betler said: “The scope of our work on this project demonstrates the wide-ranging roles that Wabtec can play in the implementation of PTC for our customers.
