Israeli technology company Radwin has been selected by Argentine Railway (Ferrocarriles Argentinos) to provide its FiberinMotion train-to-ground solution.
Designed to enhance security and safety, the multiservice platform will support Argentine Railway’s closed-circuit TVs (CCTV) and VoIP applications and works as future-proof to support onboard Wi-Fi service.
Radwin Transportation Business Line vice president Nir Hayzler said: “We are proud that Argentine Railway chose Radwin and DATASTAR to implement our technology to better serve its passengers.
“Our transportation-customised radio solutions enable rail and metro operators to enhance safety and security by delivering a high-quality, uninterrupted CCTV experience.
“In addition, FiberinMotion’s high throughput and QoS capabilities enable multiple applications to be delivered on a single unified platform, saving costs and enabling easy future expansion.”
Under the agreement, Radwin will deploy its technology on more than 100 carriage trains in the Buenos Aires to La Plata route serving the east coast of the country.

By GlobalDataIT consultancy firm DATASTAR, a Radwin partner, has been selected to implement the project.
DATASTAR project director Fernando Mele said: “During the proof-of-concept phase, Radwin’s FiberinMotion demonstrated high throughput of up to 300Mbps and zero packet loss.
“By implementing this state-of-the-art train-to-ground solution we will provide Argentine Railway with the performance and reliability needed to support critical applications and scale to support future services such as Wi-Fi and PIS.”
FiberinMotion, which delivers up to 750 Mbps throughput in non-line-of-sight and tunnel topologies, is used to power various types of applications such as high-speed WiFi, real-time CCTV, PIS and CBTC.
