Saudi-American joint venture Savage Saudi Arabia has delivered seven locomotives and two locomotive booster units to Saudi Arabia’s Eastern and Northern Provinces to support railway operations.
These locomotives and booster units, delivered from the US, will support the rail operations at Saudi Aramco and Ma’aden Wa’ad Al-Shamal Phosphate Company (MWSPC) facilities.
The shipment includes two Tier-3 compliant, low-emissions locomotives, which will be delivered to Saudi Aramco’s Wasit and Berri Gas Plants in the Jubail area. Savage will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the two units.
The remaining five GP38-3 locomotives and two booster units were supplied to MWSPC’s new mining and processing plants located at Wa’ad Al-Shamal Industrial City and Ras Al Khair Industrial City.
Savage Saudi Arabia senior vice-president and executive manager Troy Savage said: “The delivery of these locomotives highlights the continued emphasis the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is placing on the development of railroad infrastructure and diversification of industry.
After their delivery at the Port of Dammam in Saudi Arabia, the locomotives were supplied by tractor-trailers to their destinations.
