Siemens Mobility has received a €42m contract to deliver advanced rail signalling technology for Line A on the Medellin metro system in Colombia.
The contract includes system design, implementation and certification for the wayside system.
Additionally, it will upgrade signalling at the Patio de Bello depot, which serves the metro network, as well as optimise the interaction between legacy systems and the new wayside infrastructure.
The signalling systems will upgrade the antiquated technology, which was deployed more than 20 years ago.
Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter said: “We’re proud to be delivering intelligent infrastructure to Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city.
“Building on our relationship with the transit operator that started more than two decades ago, we’re confident that this new system will increase capacity on the line and provide a safer passenger experience.”

The upgrade works are scheduled to be completed by 2021.
