Stadler has secured a contract from Arriva Netherlands to maintain and service a total of the company’s 69 trains, including 18 new WINK units and 51 refurbished GTW trains.
Based upon an existing 15-year service and maintenance contract that has been in place between the two parties since 2006, the new deal is scheduled to be operational by 2020 and will run until 2035. It follows a €170m contract reached by Stadler and Arriva in November last year for the supply of 18 new bi-modal WINK trains and upgrade of 51 GTW trains.
Arriva plans to deploy the trains under the Noordelijke Lijnen concession in the Netherlands’ Friesland and Groningen region.
Arriva Netherlands Board of Directors chairman Anne Hettinga said: “The cooperation between Arriva and Stadler is an economic driver for the northern part of The Netherlands.
“This contract is a big step in the preparation for the new concession. We look forward to working together for 15 more years.
“We apply our innovative approach to developing new trains, as well as service and maintenance.”

The trains are expected to ditch HVO fuel from 2025 when parts of the Leeuwarden-Groningen route will be electrified. They will then use stored energy in the batteries.
An upgrade of Arriva’s current GTW trains is expected to be carried out by 2020. The modification will allow trains to run on battery power.
