Swedish train operator SJ has announced plans to deploy two of Trimble’s rail solutions, the R2M real-time remote diagnostics system and the C2M component condition monitoring system, in order to improve railway operations.
The installation of the Trimble systems is expected to enable SJ to improve its real-time status monitoring and analytics capability, allowing the operator to procure updated information regarding the status of its fleet.
The solutions are also intended to enhance fleet availability and overall safety of operations, as well as reduce operating costs.
SJ Fleet Management head Lars Lindberg said: “By implementing the Trimble systems, SJ can improve its capability in remote diagnostics and analysis to identify potential fleet improvements, detect faults before breakdowns occur and increase the planning horizon of maintenance.”
Trimble’s R2M solution provides the operator with a complete view of overall fleet status by processing real-time diagnostic data from rail vehicles.
The system is also capable of identifying anomalies in on-vehicle components and potential vehicle faults.

By GlobalDataThe R2M system will enable SJ to carry out fleet maintenance works if and when appropriate, rather than conducting them at fixed intervals.
Trimble’s C2M system facilitates the complete monitoring of essential components to identify potential defects, as well as wear and tears.
In addition, the solution is able to analyse the impact of these anomalies on maintenance and service for the entire fleet.
The C2M system will allow SJ to determine the operational status of the fleet and make data-driven decisions to conduct maintenance works.
Trimble Rail Solutions Business general manager Tomas Larsson said: “The deployment of both Trimble R2M and C2M means SJ will maximise benefits with remote diagnostics, condition monitoring and analytics delivered via one interface, providing a consolidated view of on-train and wayside systems.”
