Systra and Arcadis have secured a systems project management assistance (PMA) contract for the third metro line in the Greater Toulouse region of France.
The contract, awarded by Tisséo Collectivités and Tisséo Ingénierie, makes the consortium of Systra and Arcadis responsible for defining all required systems for the new line and its stations, as well as maintenance and rolling stock stabling site.
It will include rolling stock, automated and non-automated control systems, centralised control systems and associated track, power and maintenance equipment.
Systra France commercial director Jean-Yves Reynaud said: “Following our project management assistance assignment for three lines on the Grand Paris Express, as well as our role automating Line B of Lyon Metro, SYSTRA is once again at the centre of a major automated metro project in France.
“This new contract for the Line 3 project in Toulouse confirms SYSTRA’s position as the signature team for automated metro systems.”
The 27km-long new line will have 20 stations and is expected to carry more than 200,000 people daily in both directions.

By GlobalDataExpected to serve three main employment centres in this region, the line will offer connectivity with metro Lines A and B, two tram lines and multiple Linéo bus lines.
It will also enhance connectivity between Blagnac airport and Matabiau station.
Arcadis Development Director Lionel Barin said: “Following our project management for the extension of three ‘short’ stations as part of the capacity doubling for Toulouse Metro Line A, ARCADIS experts, who are very close to our clients, will once again benefit from a flagship infrastructure project for a city and its wider region.”
Previously, between 2016 and 2017, Systra conducted preliminary designs for this line, while its subsidiary SYSTRA Foncier secured a land acquisition assistance contract for this third metro line project.
