The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) in the US has selected Jacobs as the principal design consultant for the Cotton Belt Regional Rail Corridor Project.
Jacobs will assist the joint venture (JV) of Archer Western Construction and Herzog Contracting.
Overall, it will provide design and oversight services for track alignments, drainage, bridges, retaining walls, stations and signalling systems. DART values the contract at $1.1bn.
Jacobs Buildings and Infrastructure Regional Operations senior vice-president Tom Meinhart said: “Connecting three counties and seven cities, including Dallas, the fastest-growing US metro area, the Cotton Belt Project will enhance mobility, job growth and economic development throughout the corridor.
“By providing additional passenger rail connections, DART is confronting population growth with smart and sustainable transit options to reduce congestion and delays for Texans.”
The 26-mile long Cotton Belt rail project stretches from the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport to Shiloh Road Station in Plano. It will also offer connectivity to three existing DART light-rail lines; the Orange, Green and Red lines.
