Pimpama is a new railway station under construction in the northern suburb of the Gold Coast metropolitan region in Queensland, Australia.
It is one of the three new stations being developed by the Cross River Rail Authority on the Gold Coast Line as part of the Cross River Rail project, which will improve the public transport network in southeast Queensland and reduce the travel time to Brisbane.
The railway station will serve Pimpama, which is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Australia. It will allow residents of Pimpama to easily access the rail network in their own locality without travelling all the way to Ormeau or Coomera.
The new station will ease traffic congestion on the M1 Pacific Motorway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and provide local commuters with easier and more frequent rail services to Brisbane through Cross River Rail. It will also provide connectivity to other public transport networks including the Gold Coast Light Rail.
Major construction works for the Pimpama station project started in March 2023, with the start of operations expected when the 10.2km Cross River Rail line between Dutton Park and Bowen Hills enters service, connecting major suburbs of Brisbane in 2026.
Pimpama station location
The new railway station is being built along the Old Pacific Highway near the Pimpama City Shopping Centre, between Pimpama Jacobs Well Road and Mebbin Street.
Situated to the east of the M1 Pacific Motorway near the Pimpama district hub, the project site lies 2.6km south of the existing Ormeau station and roughly 4.4km north of the existing Coomera station.
Pimpama station development details
The Queensland government committed A$120m ($83m) for the construction of three new Gold Coast railway stations including Pimpama, Hope Island and Merrimac in September 2019.
The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority developed concept drawings in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Translink and held community consultations for the three new stations in the same year.
Pimpama is the first of the three Gold Coast station projects to have entered the construction phase.
The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority initiated geotechnical investigations, site surveys, utility identification and environmental assessments in January 2021.
Construction on the station access road and accompanying drainage started in the same year, while the main construction work for the Pimpama station started with the establishment of the site compound on the corner of Mebbin Steet and Gainsborough Drive in March 2023.
Railway corridor works for the new station were started in April 2023.
Pimpama station details

The station will also feature bus stops, accessible taxi and kiss ‘n’ ride bays, stairs connecting the entry level to the overpass and through-lifts on each platform. It will provide planned connections to local pedestrian and cycling paths.
The station building will house a ticket counter, accessible and ambulant bathrooms, as well as animal toileting facilities.
Adequate lighting and CCTV facilities will be provided throughout the car park and the station building.
Tactile boarding mats will be provided at accessible boarding points of the station. The station will also feature a bioretention (stormwater) basin.
