Global engineering and consultancy firm Arcadis has secured a €40m contract to provide project and programme management services to the Société du Grand Paris (SGP), the authority for the Grand Paris Express metro lines in the Île-de-France region of France.
The 16-year contract also includes the provision of technical advisory services to SGP.
Estimated to cost more than €20bn, the 200km Grand Paris Express network of new metro lines will mainly be built underground.
This latest contract awarded to Arcadis is for the 100km Red Line, which will link the suburbs around Paris to take pressure off the rail links running from the city centre.
Arcadis will be involved in all project and programme management services such as contract, cost, risk and time management, environmental procedures, technical advisory including tunnels, underground stations and mobility, and the interfaces with several other parts of Paris transport system.
The Grand Paris project involves above-ground and underground transportation, stations, building and social infrastructure projects to improve economic conditions in the Paris region, with the Red Line being one of the first major investments in the scheme.

By GlobalDataArcadis executive board member Friedrich Schneider said that the company’s extensive capabilities in project and programme management, broad expertise in underground metro systems and ability to take an integrated view to projects meant it was well-positioned for this challenge.
“Together with our project partners Artelia and BG, we have convinced the Société du Grand Paris we are the right team,” Schneider said.
