US railway solutions provider Trimble has acquired Dublin-based Nexala, a provider of enterprise solutions for the rail transport sector, in a bid to expand its role in the industry.
With this acquisition, Trimble will be able to address the broader railway workflow since Nexala will manage the lifecycle of trains from operation through maintenance and repair. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Trimble railway solutions business general manager Ron Bisio said: “Trimble can now provide innovative solutions for both the track infrastructure and the train assets that ride on it.
“Our fundamental focus is to provide solutions that drive agility, improve efficiency and provide better visibility into railway operations to maximise productivity.”
Trimble currently offers technology for track and structure construction and maintenance, including construction machine control systems, building information modelling (BIM) software and highly precise track measurement systems.
In addition, Trimble’s fleet mobility solutions, RFID=reading technology and positive train control (PTC) mapping systems ensure efficient and safe operation of passenger and freight railroads.
