RAIL.ONE’s track system has been used in a major rail infrastructure project in South Korea to connect Incheon Airport, Seoul and Olympic venues in the east of the country for the Winter Olympic Games running from 9 February to 25 February.

Following the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, South Korea is once again set to host an Olympic event. When the 23rd Winter Olympic Games launch in Pyeongchang, South Korea this week, Neumarkt-based company PCM RAIL.ONE AG will look with pride at the east Asian country.

Working with its joint venture in South Korea, TM Track Systems Ltd, the experts for concrete sleepers and track systems produced and delivered a huge part of the route for the railway line from Incheon to Gangneung.

The RAIL.ONE RHEDA 2000® system has already been used regularly on numerous high-speed rail lines in South Korea since 2007.

As part of the preparations for the Winter Olympics, RHEDA 2000® was chosen in 2013 for the connecting line between Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and the newly built Terminal 2.

This was followed by the 126.3km-long track section from Wonju to Gangneung. Solutions from the PCM RAIL.ONE Group are used on 89.5km of the total 99.4km-long ballastless twin track system and allow rail traffic to operate in part at a maximum speed of 300km/h.

But even beyond that, the importance of the route is remarkable. As well as 53 bridges and six stations, the infrastructure project features a total of 34 tunnels, including the 21.7km-long Daegwallyeong Tunnel, the longest in South Korea.
