Three subsidiaries of China Railway Group (CRG) have secured a CNY8.1bn ($1.2bn) contract from Laos-China Railway to perform civil works on sections I, II and III of the Boten-Vientiane railway project in Laos.
CRG subsidiaries comprise China Railway No 5 Engineering Group, China Railway International Group and China Railway No 8 Engineering Group.

By GlobalDataOnce complete, the 414km railway line will connect Boten on Laos’s northern border with China, to Vientiane, which is on the border with Thailand in the south.
Last year, a separate subsidiary of CRG bagged a CNY2.3bn ($344m) deal for a rail project in Laos, reported KHL.
The Boten-Vientiane project is expected to be complete in 60 months.
A total of 31 stations of the Boten-Vientiane line will serve various locations that include the Laos cities of Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng.
The line will also connect China’s Yuxi -Mohan railway with Thailand’s metre-gauge line to Bangkok, reported Railway Gazette.
Being built according to China’s GB Grade one standard, the single-track electrified line will be used for both passenger and freight services.
The passenger train will be able to run at speeds of 160km/h, while the freight services will run at 120km/h.
Boten-Vientiane railway will be built at an estimate of CNY37·4bn ($5.6bn) and comprise 258.5km of bridges and tunnels.
