The main server unit MH70R acts as the central component of the menRDC and already delivers enough performance for many non-vital train functions.
The MH70R consists of at least one high-performance, high-bandwidth multi-core CPU board, a vast number of high-speed ethernet interfaces, the most common wireless communication functionalities, and some RAID storage.
As it is based on MEN’s modular pre-configured built-to-order (BTO) concept, individual configurations made from a range of software-compatible plug-and-play components enables a short-time-to-market:
- One or two Intel Xeon D-1500 (Broadwell DE) CPU with up to 16 cores, each or 4 10Gb Ethernet and up to 8Gb Ethernet
- Two video outputs for maintenance and evaluation
- Up to two each of 3G / 4G, Wi-Fi and GPS modems
- Up to four hot-swappable SATA rev.3 HDD / SDD 2.5in slots (RAID 1 and 5)
- One or two power supplies, alternatively with uninterruptible power supply
- Compact 40 HP application-ready rack or wall-mounted system
- Pre-configured Linux operating system and drivers
- Application note for virtualisation with standard license-free hypervisor
As a virtualisation platform, the MH70R supports Intel VT-x and VT-d technology, a trusted platform module (TPM) for security implemented through cryptography, as well as an error-correcting code (ECC) memory, board and system management control, and a watchdog timer to ensure reliability.
19in menRDC sub-units come with one or two AC or DC power supplies. The optional second power device usually guarantees failure-resistant operation through redundant operation. An optional UPS can also be installed to secure constant and uninterrupted power output in mission-critical environments.
