Frequentis provides communication and emergency response systems for the railway industry, combining network operations to streamline train services.
Communication programmes for the railway control centres
Rail controllers must be able to communicate between networks such as Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) in order to make well-informed decisions. Frequentis offers a flexible unified dispatcher interface to meet the challenges that face railway control centres, while maintaining flexibility, efficiency and safety.
The Operations Communication Manager (OCM) is designed for railway controllers. It combines all communications into the Frequentis Audio Hub with a customised user interface.
By combining all of the information required by control centres, the OCM helps with service continuity, safety and efficiency to ensure smooth rail operations from one system.
Software for incident and crisis management for the rail industry
To deliver a reliable service and avoid disruptions in emergencies, Frequentis has created the Rail Emergency Management (REM) solution. The software combines information, alert and recording tools.
REM is designed as an aid for railway services in challenging incidents.
The system mitigates the risk of service disruption and works to restore services promptly. It ensures that services remain punctual and safe when accidents occur while adhering to all the relevant rules and regulations.
Centralised management systems for emergency rail operations
In order to manage the transition from decentralised to centralised rail networks, operators need a solution that will link the relevant systems with an effective incident management programme.
REM guides operators in emergencies to identify all affected operations. The communication process integrated into the programme alerts the rail system, with all network activity recorded to meet legal requirements.
Incident handling systems for railways
The Frequentis incident and crisis management programme allows control centre operators to handle operational and technical incidents and emergencies as well as planned events. It is based on the time, location and type of incident.
REM is the ideal choice for rail companies in need of a cost-effective and fast-response incident management solution.
Intergration services for European Train Control Systems
Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) had implemented European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 on 160km of new and upgraded lines along key routes by the end of 2012. This was a push for European railway operators to implement the ETCS.
Frequentis was one of the five companies collaborating on the system, including Alstom, Kapsch CarrierCom, SIGNON, and Thales.
A critical element of the system’s success was the optimal management of interactions between ÖBB departments, subcontractors, industry partners, consultants, the authorities and others. The implementation was treated as a cross-company programme.
Auxiliary network systems for railways
Frequentis was tasked with relocating their operational communications system installed for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
During the move, the company was able to provide services for the network to avoid disruption from deactivating the system. This was made possible by planning, flexibility and collaboration from the company.
Integrated communications system for improving railway efficiency
Frequentis has provided Irish Railways with improved services at lower costs through the introduction of the integrated communications system. It is based on the Frequentis FTS 3020 communications programme and the DICORA dispatch terminal.
This improved operations on the railway network that was previously operated by signalmen, regulators and level crossing controllers from Dublin’s Central Train Control office, which previously used multiple communication systems.
The installation of the Integrated Communications System removed the need for multiple operator terminals. This helped to improve services, reduce costs and transition the network to a GSM-R radio system.
Outage-free voice and data radio-based communication for rail control centres
Wiener Linien has been running the Frequentis VCS 3020 communication system since 1997. The digital system provides voice transmission for control centres with a reliable and maintainable interface.
The system has been operating its original stable hardware for more than two decades, with subsequent ongoing cost savings for Wiener Linien.
