The first step has been done – CompactPCI PlusIO paves the way into the future.
MEN’s F19P is the first of a completely new generation of 3U single-board computers. It is the first CompactPCI PlusIO SBC with Intel architecture on the market.
Based on the known CompactPCI (PICMG 2.0), CompactPCI PlusIO (PICMG 2.30) delivers the migration path to the new serial CompactPCI Plus standard (PICMG CPLUS.0) and can be used both in traditional CompactPCI systems and hybrid systems with CompactPCI Plus.
Equipped with Intel’s Core 2 Duo SP9300 down to the Celeron M722 and with a power dissipation between 5.5 and 25W, the 32bit/33MHz SBC was specially developed for embedded applications with high requirements regarding performance, reliability and low power dissipation.
The F19P offers a multitude of I/O. According to the PICMG 2.30 standard four USB 2.0, four fast SATA/SAS, four PCI Express x1 links as well as one Gigabit Ethernet are available via the J2 rear I/O connector. In addition, the F19P supports seven PCI Express x1 links for fast communication, three for onboard Ethernet and four x1 or one x4 links via rear I/O or a special side card.
The F19P is backwards compatible to the SBC family F14 to F18: graphics via VGA, two Gigabit Ethernet and two USB 2.0 are available on the board front. Additional functions such as digital video inputs via DVI, a multitude of UARTs, USBs, SATA or HD audio can be used via the connection of special extension cards.
Being equipped with the new fast DDR3 DRAM which is soldered against shock and vibration, with a robust CompactFlash and a MicroSD card, the SBC offers almost unlimited space for application data.
Different watchdogs for monitoring the processor and board temperature complete the functionality of the F19P, which is shipped with board support packages for Windows, Linux and VxWorks. Equipped with special components of the Intel Embedded Line, the F19P has a guaranteed minimum availability of 7 years.
Robust design for harsh environments
Thanks to the graphics controller integrated in the GS45, the F19P is specially suited to applications with high graphics performance requirements, but also as a monitoring or control computer or for testing or measuring purposes.
With its specially developed heat sink and the soldered components to meet shock and vibration requirements it can also be integrated into mobile applications. In addition all components are prepared for coating against dust and humidity.
Migration from CompactPCI to CompactPCI Plus
CompactPCI Plus is based on CompactPCI, an established standard for building cost-effective, reliable industrial computers. Today’s users appreciate the modularity, robustness and economic efficiency of CompactPCI. CompactPCI Plus offers all these advantages plus fast serial data transfer.
PICMG 2.30 CompactPCI PlusIO constitutes the migration path between CompactPCI Plus (PICMG CPLUS.0) and the basic CompactPCI standard PICMG 2.0. The basic standard is complemented by PICMG 2.30. This extension defines the J2 pin assignment and introduces at the same time a new, 100% compatible connector, which is also suited for transmission of high frequencies.
For this, only a few additional ground signals are required, so a high number of interfaces can be led to the backplane. The parallel PCI bus is not changed but is limited to a data bus width of 32bit. PICMG 2.30 can be used for both single and double Eurocards. A board that supports CompactPCI PlusIO remains 100% compatible with the CompactPCI standard, so it can be used without limitations in existing systems. The high-speed connector is also 100% compatible.
