MEN is introducing the first member of a new family of safe I / O boards for their modular train control system (MTCS). The K1 supports eight digital outputs and takes over up to SIL 4-relevant functions within the MTCS.
Within the new product family around the MTCS, which was developed to control safety-critical functions in a train, MEN is presenting the first I / O board, K1, with binary output functionality.
The K1’s voltage range of 24V to 110V complies with all requirements for rolling stock. With its integrated supervisor functions, extended temperature range and overall EN 50155 conformity, the K1 is perfectly prepared for its usage in the MTCS.
The MTCS family consists of the MH50C controller unit together with the safe, SIL 4-certified CPU board F75P, and up to 6 I / O cards. For more complex applications, or if the places of operation are far away from each other, the control unit can be extended by up to 63 remote I / O boxes.
The MH50C controller unit and the remote I / O boxes can be flexibly configured with the new I / O boards regarding their number and functionality. I / O boards for digital inputs and frequency inputs will be available. All components can be plugged and removed independently from each other in a system, making it possible to exchange cards or create a new configuration very easily.
MTCS builds on standardised electronics and a standardised interface, and is therefore the very first open computer platform for automatic train operation and protection. Both operators and suppliers benefit from noticeably lower system costs, not just for certification, but also due to the independence of suppliers regarding maintenance and lifecycle management.
