MEN presented its latest complete display solution in September 2010 at InnoTrans, the world’s biggest railway exhibition in Berlin. The DC2 is MEN’s first panel-PC with capacitive touch, well-suited for harsh and mobile fields of application.
Fanless, maintenance-free and extremely flexible
The panel computer DC2 is the first complete system with capacitive touch from MEN. In contrast to additional panel PCs, this display computer is extremely robust. Being fanless and maintenance-free it is perfectly suited for mobile applications. Typical ranges of application comprise displays in train driver cabins, buses or agricultural machines as well as information panels in the vehicle or at stations.
By default, the DC2 is equipped with a 10.4in LCD TFT display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1,024px x 768px. The capacitive touch panel has a response time of approximately 25ms.
The panel computer is controlled via an Intel Atom XL Z520PT processor with a frequency of up to 1.33GHz and a power consumption of 12W. One GB DDR2 SDRAM memory and a 2GB microSD card offer enough memory capacity for most user applications.
Standard I/O comprises two fast Ethernet and two USB ports as well as four binary inputs via the ten-pin power supply connector. The Ethernet interfaces have switch functionality to provide Ethernet connection to subsequent intelligent displays. A temperature sensor is provided to monitor and control the display.
The unit’s control electronics are directly attached to the back of the display, hence customised screen sizes or aspect ratios can be realised easily. Further options like using M12 connectors, changing the processor, connecting additional interfaces, a GPS adapter or HD audio can be realised according to the customer’s wishes. A MiniPCI Express® card slot with an external antenna can be used for wireless functions like WIFI, WIMAX, GSM/GPRS and UMTS.
The DC2 is equipped with a 9V – 36V wide-range power supply and able to operate in a -40°C to +70°C environment (+85°C for 10m). All components are soldered to withstand shock and vibration and are prepared for conformal coating. The panel computer is prepared for the e1 automotive certification and also corresponds to railway standard EN50155 with an additional power supply unit.
