RAIL.ONE, a leading international manufacturer of concrete sleepers and systems provider for railtrack infrastructure, has delivered 536,900 concrete sleepers to the companies SAMPYO Engineering & Construction, Kuedo Kongyung, and HwaSung-Kuedo.
These bi-block sleepers, from the RHEDA 2000® portfolio of non-ballasted track systems, were installed on the 182.3 km Honam Line. This line branches off near Osong from the existing high-speed line between Seoul and Busan and leads via Gwangju to the port city of Mokpo, in the southwest of the Korean peninsula.
Production of the sleepers took place in plants in Icheon and Cheonan, which are operated by RAIL.ONE together with its joint venture partner Taemyung Industrial Co. Ltd.
On 1 April 2015 a festive ceremony opened the 182.3km line in southwest Korea. The new high-speed line will reduce travel time between Seoul and Gwangju from 160 to 90 minutes.
This enormous project success once again confirms RAIL.ONE as one of the leaders in ballastless track technology. In the earlier, second section of the high-speed railway from Seoul to Busan, the Kyungbu Line, finished in 2007, more than 390,000 bi-block sleepers from the RHEDA 2000® system were installed over a length of 136km.
Until now, RAIL.ONE has installed a total of more than 3,500km of track and more than 150 turnouts and rail expansion joints from the RHEDA 2000® system and from models based on RHEDA technology.
