The new μGUARD acts as a multi-purpose firewall, router and access point and comes with long-term availability.
The design is optimised for ultra-low power consumption, small size (SwaP-C) and with the highest flexibility, plus the capability for operation at extended temperature (-40° up to 85°C).
The new rugged μGUARD can be expanded with up to ten additional manageable LAN ports. The μGUARD adds a reliable and unique product to MPL’s Industrial Network
Solutions (INS).
The new μGUARD comes with features like:

The μGUARD is available as OpenFrame on a cooling plate to be mounted in existing housings or cabinets and in a standard industrial housing for wall or DIN-rail mounting. If the application requires fibre, we integrate our well-proven TX2FX module. Alternatively, MPL offers a firewall solution with RJ45, M12 or MIL-38999 connectors. The standard operating temperature range is -20°C to 60°C and is optionally available in extended temperature with -40° up to 85°C.
The μGUARD comes preinstalled with an adapted version of OpenWRT (www.openwrt.org). This Linux-based embedded distribution provides all functionality required for operation as IPV4 and/or IPV6 firewall and router. The vast amount of additional packages available in conjunction with MPL support allows you to create your security solution for every routing or firewall project.
Most of the configuration for the firmware installed can be done using a web-based interface. For more specialised requirements, a console-based configuration utility is available. All configuration is stored on the device in a human-friendly text format and can be modified using a text editor.
A wide range of functionality can be installed using a package repository that contains more than 2000 precompiled applications ready to install. A software development kit (SDK) allowing the implementation of customer-specific applications is also available.
The rugged μGUARD is the ideal and most secure solution for all rugged industrial, public transportation and defence applications, where quality, reliability, ultra-low power consumption and long-term availability are key.
All MPL products are designed for long-term availability and the μGUARD will be available for at least ten years. MPL’s own component stock guarantees repairs for up to 20 years. Extended temperature ranges can be fulfilled and tested in MPL’s own climatic chambers according to the customer’s request.
The μGUARD is 100% engineered and manufactured by MPL AG in Switzerland and meets or exceeds the most common standards. Particular references are: EN 55022, EN 55024, EN 61000, MIL-STD-461E, EN 60068, EN 50155, MIL-STD-810G, EN 60601, EN 60950, CE, IEC 60945, IACS and E10.
