In 2015, Consilium introduced its CFD5000 fire detection system for transport and offshore applications. Since 19 February 2016, the system has also been SIL 2-certified by TÜV NORD, according to IEC 61508.
In many parts of the world, the offshore industry demands SIL 2-certified fire detection systems. One example is the Norwegian market, where Consilium recently opened an office in the ‘oil capital’ Stavanger. "The SIL 2 certification of CFD5000 opens up new sales opportunities for us," says Patrik Saethe, Quality and Safety Manager at Consilium. "You need to prove a certain level of safety to succeed, and now we have that proof in place." Consilium started to develop CFD5000 in January 2013 and SIL 2 certification was on the agenda from the start.
CFD5000 is based on the reliable Consilium Common Platform (CCP) with additional hardware and software to meet SIL 2 requirements both in the offshore industry and the European train market. CFD5000 meets new building and retrofit requirements. It is possible to interface CFD5000 with existing Consilium CCP-based fire detection systems and implement SIL 2 in steps, or design a new system with different safety levels.
CFD5000 is designed for long proof test intervals, cutting down on time and costs for testing. The new UNI-detector generation is programmable and therefore only comes in two versions for non-explosive and explosive environments. This reduces time and money spent on logistics, spare parts orders and stock keeping.
