Sigma Coachair Group has secured a contract for the design and supply of 642 high capacity saloon air conditioning systems for Metro Railcar vehicles to be built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries from Japan.

The vehicles will operate in the harsh metro environment of Taipei – Taiwan. Kawasaki Heavy Industries under contract from Department of Rapid Transit Systems in Taipei is supplying 321 railcar vehicles.

Mr Joseph Schembri, Divisional Business Development Manager of Sigma Coachair Group’ rail operations, said: "Strategically this is an important milestone for Sigma Coachair Group as it further cements our reputation as one of the premier rolling stock air conditioning suppliers in the world, with successfully completed projects in Europe, USA and Asia Pacific”.

Sigma Coachair Group was awarded this project against significant International competition and won the program based on its experience supplying reliable air conditioning equipment for harsh conditions as encountered in many passenger rolling stock applications around the world.

The supply of equipment is due to commence from Sigma Coachair Group’s Huntingwood facilities in Sydney, Australia, during March 2005.
