NextSense and NEM Solutions have decided to join forces in order to provide the rolling stock operators and maintainers with a state-of-the-art solution for advanced wheel lifecycle management.

From 1 March 2015, all CALIPRI devices will be equipped with a default version of NEM Solution’s A.U.R.A wheel. NextSense’s strategy focuses on providing a leading market solution in portable laser measuring devices and NEM Solutions core business is to provide solutions and services that will maximize lifecycles while increasing productivity and availability.

This alliance comes as the result of an obvious synergy that allows both parties to excel at their respective areas of expertise while bringing a unique and complete solution to the market, as Dr. Alberto Conde, NEM Solutions CEO explains: "This collaboration is a first in the market, as it unites two technology leaders, setting a trend for the years to come".

Measuring without errors

Multitasking saves time and money: that is confirmed by a contact-free profile measurement device of the Austrian innovation incubator NextSense.

Thanks to a non-contact measurement process, CALIPRI delivers high-precision and reproducible measurement results for a wide range of profiles. Whether it is wheels, brake discs or rails, the all-in-one instrument measures them all. The contact-free mode of operation delivers measurement values that are significantly more reliable and better reproducible in comparison with conventional measurement methods using contact.

The CALIPRI measurement result is free of operator influences. For customized processing, measurement data can be stored and exported. Data transmission is tamperproof and replaces handwritten documentation.

Reducing lifecycle costs

A.U.R.A Wheel provides full management of the long-term planning of railway bogie and wheelset maintenance, reducing uncertainty and over-maintenance in the planning of maintenance activities throughout the lifetime of wheelsets and of the rolling stock fleet. The ability to use big data techniques gives NEM Solutions increased knowledge and ability to extend wheel lifecycles in accordance with customer needs. This leads to a more efficient and effective maintenance, and increased fleet availability for service operation.

A.U.R.A wheel currently manages wheelsets of more than 39,000 vehicles and integrates information arriving from wheel parameters acquisition devices, wheel surface defects monitoring devices, lathes and third parties’ management solutions. This capability enables all CALIPRI users to approach their bogie related maintenance as a whole, generating value overnight.

Current CALIPRI users can also benefit from this alliance as A.U.R.A wheel can be retrofitted in older CALIPRI SW versions (V4 and above).
