Sulzer has been shortlisted for two UK rail industry awards for its apprenticeship development scheme and recruitment excellence.
Sulzer offers a wide range of technical services, including full turnkey engineering projects and rewinds of large motors and generators. The skills required to deliver such projects are predominantly provided in-house, and in order to maintain a high-quality service the company works hard to retain the knowledge of its employees.
Ongoing apprenticeship schemes are designed to help younger employees improve their skill sets and positively harness the knowledge of Sulzer’s senior employees, which has a beneficial impact on the company’s performance. Skills such as motor winding are in danger of being lost unless the younger generation are encouraged to gain experience from working with their more senior engineering counterparts.
Working closely with training partners, Sulzer selects the most suitable candidates to learn a wide range of craft skills while being mentored by one of the more experienced members of their teams. These practical, hands-on skills are complemented by training academies, which teach basic engineering skills and deliver the more theoretical side of each project.
The apprenticeship schemes that operate throughout Sulzer ensure continued engineering excellence is delivered to clients in all of the industries that we serve.
