Scott Cables is a leading provider of high-performance wiring harnesses and precision microwave and radio frequency coaxial cable assemblies for the railway industry.
Our in-house manufacturing capabilities, including tool room and test facilities, allow us to perform all aspects of cable assembly design, prototyping and production. We also offer box and cabinet build options, providing advanced assembly manufacture to our customers.
Applications for the rail industry
Scott Cables is a trusted supplier of cable assemblies for rolling stock, trackside and rail infrastructure applications.
We supply train manufacturers, network operators, rail contractors and government bodies and support new builds, upgrades and a wide range of maintenance requirements. Rolling stock applications include power distribution, communication systems, instrumentation and control, while trackside applications range from signalling and switching to points and electrification.
Scott Cables’ solutions are also suitable for infrastructure applications including signage, displays, ticketing and communications. The company is highly experienced in the manufacturing of safety critical applications, providing industry-leading delivery performance to ensure projects stay on-track.
Scott Cables is RISQS registered (GB rail’s supplier assurance scheme) to provide added quality assurance. We also stock and distribute connectors and cables as components to the industry so that contractors or OEMs can complete the cable assemblies themselves. This is often due to the necessity to complete the termination process in situ due to long cable runs or accessibility issues.
Radiofrequency cable assemblies and wiring harnesses for railway applications
Scott Cables has been a market-leading designer of flexible radiofrequency (RF) cable assemblies for electronic systems such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Radio and interconnection for the last 30 years.
Wiring harnesses can be supplied with connector components for a wide variety of platform applications.
We also offer in-house design expertise, using Harnware™ software for cable and special jacketed assemblies, design consultation, fast turnaround for prototype assemblies, 2D or 3D modelling, and general assembly layout. The software can also be used for wiring schedules or bill of materials, and has an option to incorporate customer templates.
Semi-rigid and multiway railway cable assemblies
Our semi-rigid cable assemblies are designed to be fully formed and terminated. They are suitable for high-performance applications of up to 50GHz, featuring diameters between 0.034in to 0.250in.
The low-cost assemblies are available with all industry-standard connectors with matched phase or amplitude. All cable assemblies are 100% tested and plotted.
Scott Cables’ internal carriage looms are provided to meet high operational standards at a low cost. We also offer a fitting service for customer-supplied equipment if required.
Other cable systems supplied include equipment wiring looms, Earth braids, multiway assemblies and power cables, in addition to tri-rated cable looms, multi-pole circulars and assemblies.
LMR coaxial cable assemblies
Scott Cables is an authorised stocking distributor for LMR coaxial cables and a recommended manufacturer for Times Microwave LMR cable assemblies. With a wide range of LMR cables and connectors in stock, we can deliver component materials or fully manufactured and tested assemblies. The LMR range offers direct replacements for traditional RF cables, with a lower loss and greater flexibility supplied in either flame-retardant or low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) jackets.
Options for the cable assemblies include an extensive range of connectors, ultra-flex, waterproof, low smoke or plenum jackets, as well as standard jumper cables. The Times Microwave range of cables is available in low loss up to 40GHz.
Other products available include:
- T-Flex: An alternative to semi-rigid cable
- T Com: Low passive intermodal advanced shielded range of cables up to 16GHz
- LLSB: Low-loss, fire-retardant military / aerospace cable range
