Staticon manufactures a wide range of alternating-current/direct-current (AC/DC) and DC/AC conversion equipment for the rail sector.

Developed in Canada, our convection-cooled battery chargers, rectifiers, inverters and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems have been acquired for use by underground, light rail, transit and mining operators.

All products are designed to be field serviceable with a 20-year lifespan.

Motive power products for the railway sector

Staticon offers chargers with capacities from 100A to 2,000A, making them suitable for a wide range of motive rail applications.

Staticon specialises in the manufacture of specialist power supply equipment for the rail sector.
Our railway charger is developed to recharge heavily discharged batteries.
We offer a wide range of stationary products for trackside applications.
All railway chargers adhere to International Underwriting Association and Canadian Standard Association (CSA) regulations.
Our durable platform chargers have a 20-year service life and are user-serviceable.
Our DC traction rectifiers are designed to power cranes and trolleys.
Staticon’s failsafe railway chargers are suitable for rail applications in remote locations.

All our chargers meet International Underwriting Association and Canadian Standard Association (CSA) regulations.

We also have a stationary product line for trackside applications.

Railway platform chargers

Our plug-and-play railway charger is designed to recharge heavily discharged batteries. It is available in either 32VDC or 64VDC with capacities of 100A, 150A or 200A for batteries up to 940AH.

The current battery state is shown by the bar graph display and ammeter, and its voltage can be monitored by using the test outlet on the door. The charger will then cycle through constant current, voltage and auto-equalise (if required) modes before shutting down at the end of the charge.

A power outage will not result in battery discharge and will resume and complete the charge cycle when power has been restored, and the ‘Auto Start-Equalize-Stop’ function minimises operator interaction and elevates the charger to enable optimal user floor space.

Standard options include delayed start and end volt functions with switchable output current (float/boost).

Our rugged platform chargers have a 20-year service life and are user-serviceable.

Direct-current traction rectifiers

Our DC traction rectifiers can be used to power trolleys, cranes and elevators with available power ratings up to 250KVA with standard voltage outputs of 125VDC and 250VDC.  This efficient rectifier meets CSA and UL standards and has a high overload capability.

The diode and breaker coordination in the rectifiers eliminate the need for fuses.

Standard metering consists of DC voltage and ammeter, with status and alarm lights for optional remote monitoring. Various AC input/DC output and kilowatt configurations are also available, including high-altitude designs.

Failsafe railway chargers for remote applications

Staticon’s failsafe railway charger is specifically designed for remote locations for applications involving railway switching, coding, motion sensing, telecom, crossings and flashers.

Once deployed, the charger will maintain ‘Hi-Float’ regulation (+/-0.25%) of vented, sealed Ni-cad or lead-acid batteries with line variations from 10% to -15%, frequencies of +/-5% and a 100% load variation.

The charger is short-circuited and polarity-protected in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and withstands voltages up to 5,000V. It emits no electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio-frequency interference (RFI), meeting CSA conductive and radiated emission limits. Its Soft Walk-In function prevents AC in-rush current stress and reduces upstream power surges.

Standard input voltages are 120VAC and 240VAC with outputs from 11VDC to 24VDC at 10A to 40A loads. It is operational in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 70°C with thermal compensation, and the compact cabinet can be mounted in any suitable location.
