Glasgow Airport Rail Link
Client: Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive
We are undertaking a major study to carry out the preliminary design and parliamentary submission for the Glasgow Airport Rail Link. This includes a review of the economic case, engineering scheme development of existing twin track lines and a new spur to an airport station, environmental and land-use assessment, and public and stakeholder consultation. Significant works are also planned for Glasgow Central Station.
Depot enhancement works
Client: South West Trains
We are undertaking the design of new depot works at Farnham and upgrading facilities at Wimbledon and Bournemouth for the replacement Mark 1 rolling stock. The work includes civil engineering, permanent way, signalling and utilities.
Edinburgh lines 2 and 3
Client: Transport Initiatives, Edinburgh
AECOM has been commissioned to undertake the planning, preliminary designs and preparation of material to enable passage of the bill for Line Two of the Edinburgh Tram network through the Scottish Parliament. The area covered by the line comprises a large and significant proportion of the existing and future key business, investment and economic development focal points in the west of the City, the Edinburgh conurbation as a whole, as well as the wider East Central Scotland area.
Supertram extensions study
Client: South Yorkshire PTE
This study examined a series of extensions to the Sheffield Supertram network. It assessed demand and revenue potential, regeneration benefits, infrastructure, and operational feasibility. AECOM also undertook financial and economic evaluations as well as assessing potential funding sources.
Wessex rail franchise
Client: National Express Group
We acted as bid managers for the development and evaluation of the initial proposals for this new franchise. This included stakeholder consultation, demand, revenue and economic forecasting, integrated transport proposals, train services and project management.
Station improvements
Client: Network Rail
We are currently appointed on a framework agreement to carry out structural and building services, and planning supervision duties at managed stations for railway estates. Projects to date include refurbishment and retail schemes at Cannon Street, Victoria and Paddington Stations, and detailed examinations of Waterloo and Victoria Stations. We have also completed the detailed design phase of the modern facilities at station project in three regions and Quinquennial structural surveys in Great Western Region.
Copenhagen Metro
Client: Construction Group – COMET
AECOM was the lead designer for the COMET group, providing multi-disciplinary design services covering station planning, architecture, civil and structural engineering and M&E, from tender through to completion on site.
Asset management
Client: Network Rail
We have been involved over many years in supporting Network Rail in the development of its asset management data and processes. Recent projects have included the development of decision support tools for track.

AECOM are members of the Railway Industry Association and Railway Study Association. We hold Link Up qualifications or registrations in all relevant categories (over 160). Our integrated management system assures the quality of our work and we are registered as BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and 14001:2004 – accredited in all our offices.
