Arcturus develops specialised voice and video communications systems for transportation networks.
The company provides hardened voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and video systems that meet the rugged requirements of rolling stock, while providing the high-quality digital communication essential for passenger, wayside, driver, safety and security applications.
Arcturus has active rail deployments in all major territories worldwide, and works directly with leading rail equipment manufacturers to provide communications infrastructure for private, metro and state projects.
IP-based voice and video communications for rail environments
Arcturus communications platforms are built using standards-based IP technology. Capabilities include Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) / Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) VoIP, secure RTP / SIP-TLS, narrow and wide-band voice processing, unicast or multicast audio distribution, h.264 or mJPEG camera encoding and video.
Various modes of operation are supported, including two-way, push-to-call intercoms for passenger assistance or driver / hostler comms, public address (PA) system, mass notification, pre-recorded announcements or text-to-speech (TTS) for passenger information, push-to-talk (PTT) and radio-over-IP (RoIP) for communications backhaul.
Optional integrated video services offer camera encoding at various pixel definitions and frame rates with streaming, storage and retrieval capability. Equipment includes options for self-testing, reliability and quality performance reporting, and failover operation, as well as audio intelligibility and psychoacoustic enhancements, including acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), noise reduction, microphone beam forming, and dynamic range control.
IP communication backhaul can be accomplished over wired or wireless networks using standard SIP infrastructure or peer-to-peer network topologies.
Device-centric network management solutions
Arcturus Mbarx provides an ecosystem of solutions for connected systems, complementing core technology by providing the security, management and supervisory control required by device-centric networks (IoT).
Mbarx is a certificate-based (PKI) trust-chain architecture that consists of endpoints, gateways, and tools. It is suitable for managing installations, providing cloud connectivity (host control) and creating interactive workflow systems.
The system manages many installation sites, integrates third-party devices from various vendors, and provides overall system-level work-flow for central control offices.
Arcturus engagements and professional services
Arcturus provides various levels of engagements, including low-cost development kits for evaluation of off-the-shelf component level solutions.
The company provides module components, reference designs, tools and support for RYO system design.
Standard engagement packages are available for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), who can collaborate with Arcturus engineers to address a project’s unique requirements. Engagement packages offer software and hardware customisation, support and tools.
Based on a comprehensive end-to-end architecture, the company’s System Solutions engagement packages bring together more than 15 years of communication systems design expertise with access to a broad portfolio of products, solutions and IPs.
