Arcturus Networks today announced the availability of the uCP1020 development kit and System-on-Module (SoM). The solution is a ruggedised, general-purpose network and communications platform intended for applications that require a combination of performance, networking throughput and secure data communication.

The small form-factor SoM with industrial-rated components makes the platform ideal for industrial IoT/M2M gateways, ruggedised IP-PBXs, VPNs, access points or other demanding gateway/edge node equipment and aggregator applications.

The uCP1020 is an 80x80mm hardware module with a 120pin board-to-board connector. The module uses a dual-core, Power® architecture communications processor, running at 800MHz per core. The module features a range of NOR flash, eMMC and DDR3-SDRAM memory options including hardware RAM ECC (error correction).

The system supports up to three independent 10 / 100 / 1000BaseT Ethernet Controllers and two high-speed PCIe lanes to support a mix of fixed, Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity, along with other storage or specialised physical interfaces. Additional USB, SDHC, I2C and SPI interfaces are available for peripheral device connectivity.

The P1020 processor also supports an Integrated Security Engine (ISE) capable of supporting multi-algorithmic operations in a single data pass, including all algorithms associated with IPsec, IKE and SSL / TLS. The module design accommodates passive cooling to ensure operation from -40 to 85C, without the requirement of moving parts.

"Connectivity and security are the primary concerns when developing industrial IoT and edge applications," said David Steele, product manager. "The uCP1020 is a platform to deploy secure systems in environments where multiple connectivity options are required for resilience or flexibility. The uCP1020 offers both the raw performance to aggregate communications, as well as the connectivity to enable multiple secure wired or wireless data connections, with no need for spinning disks or active cooling."

A full Linux BSP is provided with the development kit and demo software is pre-installed on the module. Various software stacks are under development to support industrial IoT gateway applications including Arcturus Mbarx Secure Site Controller software as well as plugins for popular IoT / M2M communication protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, and LWM2M.
