On 31 December 2015, Ansaldo STS (ASTS) was awarded a $31.5m contract to design, furnish, test and commission a signalling and train control (S&TC) system for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) West Side Subway Extension.
The extension will be approximately 3.9 miles from its current terminus at Wilshire/Western Station to a new Wilshire/La Cienega station and will include a total of three new stations.
The new system will be designed to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains along the extensions’ mainline and interlocked tracks. This system will meet these requirements through the implementation of automatic train protection (ATP) functions and support of automatic train operation (ATO) and automatic train supervision (ATS) functions. The new system will also employ train-To wayside communications (TWC).
