Frauscher Sensor Technology has unveiled its latest portfolio of solutions and service offerings at InnoTrans 2024. One of the company’s highlights at this year’s event was the presentation of its new point control system during a special launch event featuring the CEO, Michael Thiel. Speaking at the event, Mr. Thiel stated: “Enhancing Frauscher’s portfolio with a wayside object controller strengthens our position as a leader in future-proof railway solutions. This point control system is a perfect addition to our existing offering, reflecting new market requirements and technologies, such as EULYNX. True to our aim of constantly driving innovations according to actual market requirements, this is just a starting point for us. With the implementation of standardised interfaces, the industry faces new possibilities in terms of modularity, independency and cost efficiency. Building on the potential of this new approach, we are in a transformation phase of our train detection system FAdC and data transmission system FAdT, alongside our connectivity suite Frauscher Connect, into versatile object controllers compliant with EULYNX Baseline 4.2. With our new point control system, we’ve taken it a step further by developing the future-proof Frauscher Advanced Platform FAdP. Moving forward, our existing solutions and additional object controllers will also be integrated into this platform.”

Frauscher Point Control System: setting the course

Bringing intelligence to field elements near wayside objects with reduced wiring and open network communication results in lower costs and more efficient railway operations. Frauscher’s newly developed wayside object controller WOC, named FAdP Point Control, is an object controller for points, which enables precise and reliable control and monitoring of point machines according to commands of the interlocking system. FAdP Point Control features many functionalities which, among others, include the standardised EULYNX interface. This allows it to be seamlessly integrated into any EULYNX based system, in line with the highest standards in terms of safety and security. Railway networks that comply with standardised interfaces, such as EULYNX, provide enhanced interoperability and future-proof capabilities, meaning they are well-equipped to adapt to emerging technologies and new developments.

Furthermore, FAdP Point Control provides effective and efficient condition monitoring capabilities of factors, such as motor current, voltage and power, alongside other diagnostic and health data, giving the operator a comprehensive overview of the status of each point machine. Thanks to its compact yet robust design, this system can be utilised in a wide range of environments and operating temperature ranges from -40 to +70°C.

Forging the path to the future

Besides Frauscher’s new object controller, the company revealed a range of additional innovations at this year’s InnoTrans, as CTO andrzej bartnik explains: “The new point control system showcases our commitment to expand the Frauscher portfolio and venture into new product areas. But there are further developments that emphasise our innovative capabilities. These include, for example, our connectivity manager Frauscher connect, as well as our achievements in developing a completely new sensor generation, the Frauscher RSR360. This wheel sensor is characterised by a unique design, which is based on decades of experience from a whole portfolio of market leading inductive wheel sensors. It brings high detection sensitivity in combination with an increased immunity against EMI, as well as all types of harsh environmental conditions. The RSR360 elevates the configuration possibilities to another level, allowing greater compatibility with maintenance machineries and new braking technologies, like magnetic track brakes. Also, it is going to be the first sensor to feature a state of the art safe and secure digital ethernet interface to empower future-proof network architectures and include data from additional sensors, further expanding its field of use to track condition monitoring applications.”

In total, Frauscher’s presence at InnoTrans 2024 reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to pushing technological boundaries. By consistently delivering cutting-edge solutions whilst maintaining close relationships with their customers and partners, Frauscher emphasises its engagement to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability of railway operations. Alongside the company’s significantly expanded offering, this was summed up in its new claim, which was also unveiled at InnoTrans.
