HUBER+SUHNER’s RADOX® inter-vehicle jumper systems are now being used to equip Austria’s new state-of-the-art local and regional trains. The country’s railway operator, Austrian Federal Railways, commissioned Siemens to deliver a new fleet of 100 modern vehicles, which will meet the travelling public’s expectations for more space and greater comfort while ensuring a fast and punctual service.
Out of the 100 new trains of the Desiro ML type, 30 are intended for use in suburban railways and 70 for regional traffic. The suburban passenger trains provide 244 seats, while the regional trains provide 259 seats. Both train types can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
A tailor-made solution
A total of 200 RADOX® inter-vehicle jumper systems from HUBER+SUHNER are included in the new trains. The systems are produced and tested at HUBER+SUHNER’s production site in Poland before being delivered to Siemens’s plants in Germany and Austria for integration into the trains.
The robust cable systems have been customised to meet the technical requirements of Siemens and take into account the specific vehicle geometry and movements of the trains. The inter-vehicle jumper systems also boast an above-average service life. The adjustment of the systems to the vehicle geometry and train movements is crucial in ensuring that the carriage transitions are not placed under excess stress and for achieving the required service life.
The materials and construction of RADOX® inter-vehicle jumper systems from HUBER+SUHNER have been designed specifically for use in such situations.
HUBER+SUHNER can therefore look forward to receiving further orders from the rail market in future.
Modern trains for increased comfort
The modern trains can be used flexibly depending on the number of passengers. The convenient low-floor entrances provide easy access for wheelchair users and families with pushchairs.
Comfort and accessibility also played a large role in the interior design. The seats are spaced at generous intervals and are adjustable, while foldaway tables allow more space to be created if needed.
The design even provides space for transporting bicycles. Thanks to their improved drive units, the trains require less energy and are more environmentally friendly. A modern visual and acoustic passenger information system provides passengers with up-to-date information about the journey.
