It’s a sign of the times, two of the leading suppliers of Wi-Fi on train systems have this week cut deals that tie them ever closer to train operating companies.

First, Icomera and Chiltern Railways made an agreement to boost coverage by having UK mobile company EE install new masts near the tracks, then Dutch passenger rail company NS contracted Nomad Digital to provide on-board Wi-Fi and passenger information services (PIS) for a further five years.

Icomera (Gold) and Nomad (Silver) are two of the main sponsors of this year’s Wi-Fi on Train Communications Systems 2016, hosted by BWCS in London from 8-9 June. BAI Communications, 21Net, Fluidmesh and Teldat are also sponsoring.

Speakers from train operating companies in America, India, Argentina, Russia, Germany, Spain, Denmark, the UK and across the world will be presenting their unique experiences of putting Wi-Fi onto their trains and how they are fighting the battle to improve connectivity along their routes.

The conference is focused directly on hearing the real-life struggles of train operating companies currently involved in this battle, as well as those launching new innovative broadband wireless services on-board their trains as they fight to cut costs, beat the competition and enhance the passenger experience.
