Based on a long tradition in the field of railway radio systems, TELEFUNKEN has developed a new class of broadband radio systems for various railway applications under the registered family name of TRainCom®.

Modular, broadband radios for trains

These modular radio systems have provide excellent-performance, safe, interference-free transmission of operating data and information for passenger services. All TRainCom radio systems are based on a combination of long-term experience, state-of-the-art system design and proven network technology.

In accordance with the specific requirements of each railway application, TRainCom radio systems are available in various versions:

TELEFUNKEN has developed a new class of broadband radio systems for various rail applications, forming a complete radio system family.
The TRainCom® radio transceiver (TR5800) is one of the core elements of each TRainCom radio system: it has a ruggedised design with IP67 protection and EN50155 certification.
One of the first applications of TRainCom® radio systems was the challenging ultra-highspeed Transrapid MAGLEV train system.
The latest application of TRainCom radio systems is the broadband radio communication solution for security applications on the Munich Metro.
  • TRainCom Mass Transit (MT)
  • TRainCom High-Speed Train (HST)
  • TRainCom TrafficNet (TN)
  • TRainCom MAGLEV

Broadband radios for high-speed trains

TRainCom MT broadband radios are developed particularly for the demanding communication requirements of metro operators. CBTC and ATO applications are implemented based on these systems’ high link-availability and system reliability. In addition, real-time data transmission for various passenger services and safety applications (CCTV) can be provided.

Train-to-wayside data transmission

TRainCom HST modular radios are addressing the growing requirement for communication connections in railway applications. The powerful TRainCom data-link enables simultaneous train-to-wayside data transmission for various applications such as passenger infotainment, internet on trains, train diagnostics or online ticketing.

Broadband radios for trams

TRainCom TN broadband radios are used for simple applications in trams. They are used for selective or continuous communication between control centres and vehicles on the line. A high-rate data-transmission function also enables the transmission of stored monitoring data from the vehicles.

Modular radios for maglev trains

TRainCom MAGLEV radio systems are designed to address the high communication requirements of driverless, high-speed maglev trains travelling at velocities of more than 500km/hr.

Features of our broadband radios for trains

TRainCom features include:

  • Universal radio systems for simultaneous data services
  • Licence-free frequency bands or customised solutions
  • Bit rates of up to 32MB/s
  • Full-/half-duplex transmission
  • IP-based system design
  • Quality of service (QoS) functionality
  • Seamless, lossless roaming
  • High data security and integrity
  • Built-in system diagnostics function (SNMP-based)
  • High availability of more than 99.999%
  • Scalable and modular system structure
  • Rail certification (EN50155)

Modular radios for rail data-transmission applications

TRainCom data transmission can be used for a wide range of applications in the rail industry. These include communication-based train control (CBTC/ ATO/ UTO); train video monitoring (CCTV); voice radio (VoIP); passenger information systems (PIS); wireless internet access; passenger announcement (PA) systems; automatic passenger counting (APC) systems; online news/TV; online diagnostics; driver info screen; and transport management systems (TMS).

Projects

  • Chuo Shinkansen Maglev Line

The Chuo Shinkansen (also known as the Tokaido Shinkansen Bypass) is a new rail line being constructed in phases, based on the Japanese Superconducting Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) system.
