KEYMILE is a leading technology supplier of communications solutions for access and transmission systems. It has now significantly enhanced the capabilities of its multi-service access platform MileGate for use in dedicated networks. New boards offer more bandwidth, provide enhanced SDH and Ethernet functions and support seamless migration from SDH to Ethernet-networks.
In dedicated networks, MileGate provides native TDM technology and Ethernet in one single subrack. The multi-service access platform’s hybrid backplane allows network providers to use both highly flexible optical and electrical Ethernet interfaces with high port densities, as well as traditional services such as analogue telephony, synchronous and asynchronous TDM connections.
With the new board, operators of dedicated networks can transmit TDM and Ethernet services via SDH in the hierarchy groups STM-16 (2.5 Gbps), STM-4 and STM-1.
The higher bandwidth responds to increasing demands for bandwidth in dedicated networks too, for example where video surveillance is concerned. The board offers SDH and Ethernet interfaces at the front and has access to the data traffic from the TDM bus and the Ethernet star in MileGate. Due to the Ethernet-over-SDH functions, the board can transmit the Ethernet data via a solely SDH backbone. Consequently, it enables seamless migration from SDH networks to purely Ethernet networks from the same subrack. It is possible to provide both types of transmission at the same time.
The second board is a new central board, specially customised to handle the requirements in dedicated networks. It controls each of the line cards and gateways via the backplane and ensures the uplink of the Ethernet data at a bandwidth of n x 10 GbE. The board functions as a central Ethernet switch, offering a range of functions such as VLAN services, link aggregation and multi-casting. It has three electrical interfaces, as well as two slots for optical SFP+ modules. Two 10 GbE/1-GbE uplinks and a redundant 1:1 connection to safeguard transmission can be implemented via the interfaces.
MileGate offers what is known in the IT world as an open chassis-switching architecture, where all the Ethernet boards installed are components of a modular switch. As a result, operators of dedicated networks at railways, local authorities, transportation companies and utilities, can very flexibly adapt MileGate to their needs. In these applications, demands on reliability, durability and safety are particularly high.
MileGate meets these specifications thanks to its extensive redundancy functions and high MTBF (Mean-Time-Between-Failure) figures. The high reliability is additionally achieved by MileGate’s fanless operation (optional). At the same time, MileGate’s flexibility easily allows it to provide TDM and Ethernet services from one single, compact network element.
KEYMILE will be showcasing both boards at InnoTrans 2012 in Berlin from 18 to 21 September in hall 6.1, stand 218.
