Topology optimisation is a method to find the most efficient material allocation for a given design space. Regarding important boundary conditions, such as load cases, attached structures and interfaces, it is possible to generate an ideal structure for a technical construction.

During a rail project TGM introduced this advantageous method in the rail industry. Due to topology (design space) optimisation of a rail car shell TGM could identify significant lightweight potentials.
