ACS / HOCHTIEF consortium has secured a $1.95bn public-private partnership (PPP) contract for the development of a rail project at Los Angeles International Airport.

The consortium will be responsible for the planning, funding, construction and operation of an automated people mover for a period of 25 years under the deal.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) New York City Transit has awarded a $1.4bn contract to Kawasaki Heavy Industries for the supply of 535 R211-series subway cars.

The new cars are expected to replace the existing R46 railcars and are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2023.

MTA intends to enhance the reliability of passenger services by introducing  the new advanced railcars, which are equipped with a variety of sophisticated features.

Israel-based rail cyber-security technology provider Cylus has raised $4.7m through a seed funding round.

The funding was provided by Magma Venture Partners, Vertex Ventures, the SBI Group and private investor Zohar Zisapel.

The company intends to use the funds to resolve various cyber-security issues encountered by the railway industry.

A joint venture (JV) between Thales and Shanghai Electric, Thales SEC Transport (TST), has secured a signalling contract from the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.

TST will provide signalling systems for the operation of Shanghai Metro Line 14 under the arrangement.

The 38.5km-long network is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2020.
