Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has awarded a $388m contract to a consortium of Bombardier Transportation and its local partner Hartasuma for delivery of an additional 27 Innovia Metro 300 trains to be operated on the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bombardier’s lightweight, four-car trains will provide high-capacity mobility on the city’s integrated transit network by moving up to 30,000 passengers an hour in each direction.

First-MTR South Western Trains Ltd, a joint venture (JV) between the UK’s FirstGroup and Hong Kong’s MTR, has won a franchise contract to operate the UK’s South West Trains (SWT).
During the seven-year contract period, the JV will introduce a new fleet of trains to speed-up journeys for passengers travelling around London’s suburban network. It will also seek support from Network Rail for a £1.2bn investment to provide better passenger facilities for the travellers.
Finance Birmingham, through its Rail Supply Growth Fund, has announced £2m ($2.49m) funding to the engineering company, Penso.
Funding will be used by Penso to accelerate the design and production of its new lightweight composite train doors, which will be used on London underground trains.
Penso’s composite design for train doors is the world’s first production-capable lightweight design that will allow quicker door opening and closing times, thus enhancing operational efficiency.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has awarded a contract worth $647m to China Railway Rolling Stock for the delivery of 64 new railcars to be used on Metro’s Red and Purple lines.
Metro will use 34 trains for the Purple Line’s first four-mile extension, while the remaining vehicles will replace the existing fleet running between downtown Los Angeles, Mid-Wilshire District and North Hollywood.
The first pilot vehicle under the order will be delivered in spring 2020, while the remaining deliveries will be completed by September 2021.

The powder coating, Alesta AR, features fluoropolymer powder coating technology and protects the sound management structures along the Qingpu section of the metro line.
