The Weighwell PTW1 and PTW 1 HD are both portable and accurate in-motion train weighing systems that are ideal for the rail freight market. Additionally our PTW1 HD has been specifically designed to withstand greater axle loads with an increased weighing range of 40t per axle (20t per wheel).

Our in-motion systems provide the capability to weight trains at speeds of up to 3mph (5km/h) and measure axle weights, wagon (railcar) weights and total train weights, making our in-motion weighing systems ideal for temporary sites and short term projects. The portable and unique nature of our PTW allows the system to be installed in various locations to suit the customer’s needs.

The main key feature over a fixed installation is the ability to install our systems into a variety rail types and track gauges with no restrictions on wagon types. This results in beneficial cost and time savings with no costly civil works or permanent alterations to the track when using our in-motion train weighing systems.

Installed within 15 minutes and with an accuracy between 2% and 3%, both our specialised in-motion systems can reliably check the axle loads of wagons which if left undetected can either damage the wagons themselves or rail infrastructure.
