Train-intelligent passenger service system (T-IPSS) is a new-generation metro passenger service system for achieving the best travel experience. Compared with traditional systems, T-IPSS designed with many new technologies is more intelligent, effective, and safer and represents the future development direction of passenger service systems.

In the passenger compartment, T-IPSS can provide passengers with rich and diversified information services through new media. Utilising the new 4K HD screen arranged above door and aisle, passengers can know the information from different positions such as next station, toilets of next station, elevator, transfer route, exits, and congestion of front/rear compartments. In addition, the train window becomes a 55in ‘magic mirror’ to display the train’s current position, line map, and 3D diagram of the next station after the train starts moving.

Before the ‘intelligent train’ comes, the operation position and the congestion and cold state of the compartment can also be displayed so that passengers can choose suitable waiting positions. In the future, operation information such as ‘overtaking trains’ will also be displayed. In addition, ‘eyes’ protecting passenger safety are arranged in the compartment, that is, perceptual camera, advanced image recognition and intelligent analysis technology are used for detecting the passengers who are fainting or need help. Sensing equipment is also installed in front of the driver to judge the driving state according to the facial features, that is, once fatigue or distraction is detected, the system will send a voice prompt to guarantee the passenger safety actively and intelligently.

The train can collect interior information such as full load rate, temperature, humidity and air and upload it to the operation monitoring cloud platform together with other operation data, thereby providing a digital basis for comfort improvement and operation management. It can also realise ‘networking’, i.e., the train-level information transmission through wireless Ad-Hoc Network. The system is provided with a bad information ‘firewall’ to avoid illegal texts and videos. An integrated platform is also established to summarise information and control logic centrally. The platform also supports functions such as ‘clairvoyant’, ‘clairaudience’, and ‘intelligent operation and maintenance’, so as to send alarm and prompt to deceleration automatically as long as TIDS detects dangerous obstacles and personnel in the front during operation; after the train returns depot, it can be connected with Wi-Fi to upload operation and maintenance data, so as to support equipment maintenance and fault prediction. So far, the system has been applied to Beijing Subway Line 6 for trail operation and will be improved continuously in the future.
